1964 Chevrolet Impala 409/425HP — Dual Quads, 4-Speed, Numbers Matching, Long-Term Ownership
Up for sale is my 1964 Chevrolet Impala powered by its original, numbers-matching 409ci V8 rated at 425 horsepower with dual four-barrel carburetors, paired to a 4-speed manual transmission and a floor shifter. This car has been in the hands of the same owner for 30 years before I purchased it a few months ago, and it shows — it’s been well preserved, respectfully maintained, and properly driven.
Originally a Silver Blue car, it was refinished in black back in 1990 and still presents well today. The bumpers were rechromed, and the window felts were also replaced. The body is straight, the gaps are clean, and the paint retains a deep shine. It rides on correct 14″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps wrapped in BFGoodrich Silvertown bias-ply tires for that classic ‘60s stance.
Inside, the black vinyl and cloth interior was refurbished to factory style and looks sharp. The bench seats front and rear are in great condition, and it still has the original-style AM radio (currently inop). The dash houses the wide-sweep speedometer, and a tach is mounted on the column. There’s also an analog clock and original trim throughout. The cue-ball 4-speed shifter with reverse lockout adds to the period-correct feel.
The star of the show is the 409ci V8, which is numbers matching and was rebuilt and balanced by noted drag racer Steve Carbone. It features an aluminum intake, dual four-barrels, chrome valve covers, and a dual-snorkel air cleaner. It fires right up, idles smooth, and pulls hard through the gears. The dual exhaust system sounds fantastic without being overbearing.
Underneath, it’s clean and solid. It’s equipped with manual steering and brakes, giving it that raw, mechanical connection to the road. Odometer reads 29,000 miles, which is believed to be accurate by prior ownership, though I’m selling it as TMU (true mileage unknown).
This is a real-deal 409 dual quad 4-speed Impala, not a tribute or clone. It’s the kind of car you don’t see often anymore — honest, uncut, and ready to enjoy. Comes with paperwork and records from its long-term owner, along with a clean Arizona title in hand.
